Zombi Mexicano by Keith J. Rainville
There is not enough literature on Lucha Libre movies and comics. Fortunately for us, we have amazing people like Keith Rainville who gushes with enthusiasm over the subject matter. Just in time for El Día de los Muertos, Mr Rainville has released his newest book, Zombi Mexicano. This book talks about how the "momias" of Mexican decent aren't as equivalent to their Egyptian counterparts, and are a closer kin to the American zombie. From there, he dives in to history, and into the great movies featuring these hideous undead. I just received my copy today, and I'm pretty thrilled, it was well worth the money!
Such a slick cover. Love the warm tones, and the creeps whom I think were in La Mansion de 7 Momias.

You have to do yourself a favor and pick up this book. Any lucha libre nut, or foreign horror fan should have this in their library! Buy your copy here at Keith Rainville's site: http://frompartsunknown.net/

Shout out to Lioncorn
I'm so glad I set up Google Alerts to hit me up on anything about Santo and Blue Demon. I've been trying to get as much new info on the current situation with the "Sexo y El Vampiro" edit of Tesoro de Dracula, so I setup the alerts. Yesterday Google Alerts sent me a link to this great site:
PS I still can't drink tamarindo Jarritos. I love candy with tamarindo, but not drinks.
This blog is really great, all sorts of info on great art, old weird movies, and other such bizarre interests that reflect my own. I'm so glad the internet can connect people with such niche interests. If it weren't for the internet, my girlfriend, Veronica, would have killed me by now from talking her ear off about all these movies that she really doesn't care about. She has a point though, they stink. It's like drinking tamarindo flavored Jarritos, either you hate it or you like it, or you tell yourself you should like it and eventually acquire a taste. So thank you, internet, for saving my relationship :)

Mummies a la Mexicana
This is the last documentary I'll post tonight. This is a documentary made at home by some film professor on Youtube. It's really interesting, and a tad slow. He lets a lot of the film clips do the talking for him. I really need to talk to this guy, and check out more of his work:
Episode 1 Part 1 "The Aztec Mummy"
Episode 1 Part 2 "More Aztec Mummies"
Mummies a la Mexicana: Episode 2 Part 1 "From Egypt to Mexico"

Not sure why, but this guy didn't allow embedding with the second episode part 1. So, just follow the link above.
Mummies a la Mexicana: Episode 2 Part 2 "Guanajuato to Guatemala"
Again, I must say, great documentary! Lastly, I leave you with this really amazingly great trailer for a double feature of The Vampire's Coffin and The Aztec Mummy:

Mondo Macabro: Mexican Horror
This is a really great, but short, documentary on Mexican horror movies. They start with the early movies, especially those redubbed for American markets by K Gordon Murray. They start with cues from Universal Picture's Horror, then they move to the Santo and other luchadores versus monsters movies, then lastly the darker movies of the '70s to the near present.
As a side note, I still don't know why they called it "Mondo" Macabro... Maybe Macabro Mundo, or even El mundo del Macabro.

Hammer: The Studio that Dripped Blood
This is a documentary from 1987, about the works of Hammer, who made many great horror movies across the Atlantic. This is where we find the likes of Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing shine as vampires, hunters, doctors, madmen, and other awesome characters.
